It’s NOT personal! 🙅‍♂️

Training
When your dog keeps destroying your stuff, it can feel SO frustrating, and even like a personal attack – but there’s always a reason behind the behavior (and it’s not spite!)

Two of the biggest culprits are:

💥 pent-up energy

😱 anxiety

Destructive behavior is a signal that your dog has an unmet need. It’s not personal!

If your dog’s not getting enough outlets for their natural energy, or if something (like being left alone) is causing anxiety, that can often manifest in chewing up your favorite items when they’re unsupervised…

Punishing your dog does nothing to address the actual cause of their destructive behavior.

Instead, focus on addressing these underlying issues. Consider things like adding more enrichment, physical activity, and thoughtful training to their daily routine. And of course, figure out how you can manage their environment better to keep them (and your things!) safe when you’re not around to supervise.

This will make a huge difference. And over time, when their needs are met and with your proactive guidance, those “bad” destructive habits will get replaced with habits you both can agree on!

Remember, your dog isn’t trying to be difficult. They’re trying to communicate.

Have you dealt with these issues? Tell me what’s worked (or hasn’t worked 😅) for your dog!
