Hilary Duff Says Goodbye To Her Dog Of Nearly Two Decades

News

Lizzie McGuire and How I Met Your Father star Hilary Duff is in mourning this week after the loss of her Yorkie, Jak. If you can even remember her 2.5 year relationship with Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, Jak was a gift from the rock star back in 2003.

After nearly two decades with her pup, Hilary posted on Instagram that Jak had crossed the rainbow bridge. She wrote about how much she learned from her dog over the years and how much it hurts to lose him.

Alongside several photos of the Yorkie with different members of his family over the years, Duff shared:

“Rest easy my sweet Jak… a true fine wine ….We won’t miss you peeing all over the house or barking all night…but I was so lucky to get almost two decades with you!!”

Jak has been Hilary’s companion since before she even had children. In her post, she said raising dogs prepared her for the responsibility of having kids.

“You watched me bring all my babies home. You, Lola, and Dubie taught me so much responsibility before having these human babies and you sure gave me a lot of comfort and love when I needed it the most!”

Duff’s goodbye post for Jak received well-wishes from fellow actors Ashley Tisdale and Kim Cattrall. A dog lover is a dog lover, no matter how famous.

Throughout her life, Duff loved many dogs in addition to Jak. Though Jak was a gift to her as a teenager, all of her other dogs were rescues. Duff typically has a pack of several dogs at home with her.

Dubois (a.k.a. Dubie,) Duff’s Bernese Mountain Dog, passed away in 2018. She wrote this sweet tribute to Dubie on Instagram then:

You are more than I could have ever dreamt up on my own. I haven’t taken a step without you beside me for 10 years. You are my protector my comfort, my shadow, my understanding of all things good and warm and fierce.”

Later that year, Duff and her [now husband] rescued a senior dog named Lucy from Love Leo Rescue. The nonprofit is based in Los Angeles, and it’s also where she found her other dog Momo in 2017. Their latest rescue is a big dog named Winnie.

Duff has been open about supporting animal rescues like Love Leo Rescue. It’s always good to use your platform to promote rescuing over shopping.
